In contrast to the sexy glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing in 1970, the film is based on the true story of a great sporting rivalry between the massive English playboy James Hunt (Hemsworth) and his system, the opponent brilliant Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Brühl). The story follows their very different personal style on and off the tracks, their love and the impressive 1976 season in which both drivers were willing to risk everything to become a world champion in a sport with no margin error: if you do not want, you die.
